FDA approves the Artisan Verisyse™ Phakic IntaOcular Lens

September 12, 2004
In September 2004 the Food and Drug Administration approved the first implantable lens to help patients with high myopia (nearsightedness) who are not suitable candidates for  cornea-based related laser procedures (LASIK, PRK, EPILASIK,|INTRALASE). The Verisyse is an iris fixated lens with significant advantages in safety, stability and efficacy.
Phakic Intraocular Lens represents a safe and effective alternative for patients wishing to reduce or eliminate the need for high power glasses or contact lenses. The lens is designed for implantation into the anterior chamber in a phakic eye for the correction of high myopia between -5 to -20 D.  The word “phakic” means that your natural crystalline lens is left in the eye. This is important because your natural lens plays an important role in helping your eye adjust between seeing objects that are near and far.

Warren Cross M.D & Associates/ Bellaire Eye LAser Center offers Phakic Intraocular implantable Lens as an option for treatment of neartsightedness up to minus 20 Dioptres, farsightedness up to plus 12 Dioptres and Astigmatism up to 7.5 Dioptres.
